This is the second commission received from the University of Bradford. It follows on from the large portrait of the former principal and Vice Chancellor Professor Chris Taylor. Martin Bousfield sadly died last year so the artist used photographs as reference. It is a most unconventional portrait for the university collection as it represents Martin in casual clothes clearly enjoying his life outside the university. “Most of the other commissioned portraits in the university collection are quite formal in cap and gown this one really pushes out the boundaries and shows Martin as an individual in an environment he loved. I created a painting with lots of mood and space using the evening light to convey a feeling of contentment “ said Alan. “Martin’s wife Judith gave me lots of encouragement and I am most grateful to her for being so supportive in my treatment of the commission.” |
