Alan Hydes is an artist of international standing, with paintings in public and private collections worldwide. He produces a wide body of work including portraits, life studies, landscapes and botanical paintings. A percentage of his work is commissioned by public galleries for their permanent collections, whilst portrait commissions now hang in private collections and many are archived by the National Portrait Gallery.

Portraiture forms a significant part of Alan`s creative output, with sitters including a UK Prime Minister, Archbishop, Bishop and Chancellor, along with academics, rock stars, leading actors, writers and TV personalities.

“Portrait painting is a very challenging activity that demands a high level of concentration and acute observation in order to produce a painting that best describes the subject. I work towards bringing out the sitters personality and character as I produce an accurate likeness. There is no point in simply developing a photographic image. A portrait has to get under the skin of the sitter and create a unique presence.” Said Alan.
