A further series of Art Courses begin in Summer 2008, based in the chic retreat of Deia on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Mallorca.

DÉIA VILLAGE

ALMOND BLOSSOM DÉIA

Courses will cater for artists of all abilities from absolute beginners to accomplished professionals and will run from mid-summer to September 2008

A broad range of subject matter will be explored throughout the curriculum. Acrylics, oils, watercolours and mixed media will be applied to subject matter ranging from landscape and botanical studies to work from the life model. Each student will work within their individual orbit of interests, whether it be portraiture or abstraction.

Alan Hydes is the principal tutor with additional teaching provided by visiting lecturers on some courses. Alan has over 30 years experience in arts lecturing, with much of his teaching at degree level (BA Hons courses).

Alan's informal style and joie de vivre immediately puts students at ease and ensures an enjoyable and informative week in a setting without parallel.

Courses run for five days per week at a basic cost of £420 including lunch and are based in and around Alan's studio, framed by the mountains overlooking the shimmering Cala de Deia, the village beach hidden in a picturesque rocky cove of cliffs, pine and cedar. Groups will be limited to no more than 12 students per week so personal tuition is guaranteed.

The fabled mountainside village of Deia attracts the off-duty A-list. Perching precariously above the seashore in a semi-circle of the towering Tramuntana mountains the village has long been a mecca for artists, the bohemian and a chic celebrity retreat. Writers, from Robert Graves and assorted friends, hippies and rock stars have been attracted here for generations.Yet its low-key sophistication ensures everyone mixes at a myriad of restaurants and bars ranging from the Michelin-starred El Olivo, rated one of the best in Spain, to the local rock bar with its jamming sessions that may contain a famous face or two!

LA RESIDENCIA MALLORCA

There is a wide range of accomodation available from B and B and self-catering to the luxury of one of the world's most famous hotels La Residencia with a roll call of guests from Princess Diana, the King and Queen of Spain to present regulars Harrison Ford and Francis Ford Coppola. Students are requested to arrange their own accommodation although special rates can be obtained.
